Well, don’t worry! You need to follow just a few simple and easy steps to take distro backup on your Windows 11 PC. This is because we tried our best to keep the guide as simple as possible so that a non-tech person can also able to backup the WSL2 Linux Distro just by following the guide steps by step. So, let’s see those steps:

  1. First of all, hover over to the Windows 11 Start menu.
  2. Thereafter, click on the search button and search for Command Prompt. Then, open it using the admin rights.
  3. Now, execute the given command in order to open the list of available Linux distros on your device:
    wsl --list
  4. Thereafter, to create the backup execute this command:
    wsl --export DISTRO-NAME PATHFILE-NAME.tar

That’s it. Now, make sure to replace the DISTRO-NAME with the real name of your Linux Distro on your system. Also, change the PATHFILE-NAME.tar to the folder or location where you want to store this backup file. 

Note: If you forget to give the location where you want to store this backup, the system will automatically save it on your C drive on whichever drive you are using as a system drive.
